Black coral research in Doubtful Sound (63.75K)

a. Franz Smith of Otago University drilling hole for transplanted black coral. Date of transplantation provides a baseline trauma for growth and aging experiments.

b. Franz using a quick setting epoxy resin to fix transplanted coral.

c. Female black coral close to spawning. Male corals have only recently been identified.

d. Ken Grange of NIWA collecting data from black coral colony.
