Fiordland Underwater

About the Authors

Paddy is a freelance environmental consultant, photographer, writer and speaker currently based in Denver, Colorado where he works as an Associate Professor at Johnson & Wales University. He has had five books published including Fiordland Underwater ... New Zealand's Hidden Wilderness co-authored with Chris Paulin, on which most of this site was based. Fiji's Natural Heritage (second edition)was published 2000. It has subsequently been translated into Fijian as Noda Veikabula by Paul Geraghty and copies given to every school in Fiji. This was made possible through the generosity of Seacology. Paddy travels widely in the South Pacific and North America pursuing his photographs. Together with his wife Kathy, Paddy recently set up a book selling/import business entitled Pacific Island Books (www.pacificislandbooks.com) which aims to make books from "down under" more widely available in the US.

Chris is a Fish Biologist with the Museum of New Zealand, Te Papa. He has published numerous scientific papers and several books. He is joint co-author of Fiordland Underwater. Chris is a keen topside photographer with a passion for conserving New Zealand's biological treasures. Chris's hobbies include fly fishing, home brewing and photography.

Both Paddy and Chris have dived regularly in Fiordland and between them have logged over 180 dives in most of the fiords. This site is largely based on personal experience and the information obtained in writing Fiordland Underwater. This could not have been written without the help of numerous colleagues and friends. Fiordland Underwater was published with the aid of a grant from the New Zealand Lotteries Board and their generous support is acknowledged with grateful thanks.
