More Fish
The eye of a carpet shark or cat shark Cephaloscyllium isabellum. One of these small sharks proved to be quite obstinate and despite repeated proddings with the handle of a hawaiian sling continued to try to get at fish specimens in a dive bag. In the end the diver was forced to leave the water. (63.86K)

Banded wrasse Notolabrus fucicola are very diver positive and can be seen on most dives. (54.88K)
Helicolenus percoides or Jock Stewart is incredibly common in Fiordland. (72.64K)
Scorpionfish Scorpaena papillosus are often brilliantly camouflaged. As their dorsal spines are venomous this may present a problem for the unwary diver. (60.73K)
This scorpionfish is resting on black coral. (59.50K)
Seahorse Hippocampus abdominalis are rarely seen in Fiordland although they are probably quite common. (48.35K)
Fiordichthys slartibartfasti is so far known only from four specimens from Fiordland. This is a dead specimen phtographed in a small aquarium. (23.70K)
